So I’m not usually a fan of anything fake. “Fake” people are the worst, fake food isn’t edible or good for you, and fake plants don’t grow and normally don’t even look somewhat real. That said, when I was given the opportunity to try out some products from store, I thought I’d at least play along in spite of my personal feelings regarding artificial plants. Well, I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised.
I’m a writer and a gardener. I write about plants most of the time, and I write about other things too. But everything I write is straight up – I’m not in the habit of saying what I don’t mean or steering others to see things my way. I love to spend time in the garden and growing plants, oftentimes from seed. It makes my heart smile to watch them grow and thrive, and it’s just as disheartening when they don’t. I do have a couple artificial plants in my home, though, just to add that special touch wherever necessary, like a dark corner of the home or a windowless room where a live plant may not thrive, let alone grow.
Of course, the “fake” greenery I have consists of nothing more than a couple evergreen trees that are obviously not meant to look real but simply to add color in a dark spot. What I received from Commercial Silk, however, is a bit different – cycad, grass plant, mixed succulents. Maybe times have changed and technology has given way to new methods of creating “life-like” products. Whatever it is, I’m impressed. While you can tell close up the plants are not real, from a distance, even amongst other live plants, they actually blend in quite nicely.
My eventual plan is to put these in my bathroom where there are no windows and it’s dark most of the time. Not an ideal setting for houseplants. Unfortunately, at the time of this writing, my bathroom is under renovation – plumbing issues and new floor. Not an ideal setting for new plants or pictures. However, as gardeners frequently do, relocating plants ain’t nothing but a thing. So for the moment I placed one on my old desk, another in the kitchen with some of my houseplants and nestled the succulent plants in amongst some shelves – all of which turned out great by the way.
I may have started this process out with a bit of skepticism, but I have to say that I’m glad I did it and I’m happy with the plant products I received.
